our studio

Something Original is a 100% Aboriginal-owned tattoo studio on unceded Gadigal Country in Sydney. We opened our doors in 2020 on the bustling main road of Newtown, and have not looked back since. Our motto is “All styles, all smiles, all welcome” and we stand by that ethos everyday.

We perform all styles of tattooing including portraits, photo realism, custom lettering, fine line, old school traditional, neo-traditional, illustrative, anime, dark gothic, geometric, blackwork, Japanese, precolonial Filipino markings, and of course anything related to native Australian flora and fauna, as well as traditional and contemporary Aboriginal cultural designs.

We also offer body piercing, tooth gems, and laser tattoo removal. All of our staff work by appointment as well as accepting walk-ins.

You can find us at 128 King Street, Newtown, near the intersection of Missenden Rd.

Our values

We are located in the eclectic and progressive heart of Sydney’s Inner West, and the demographic of this area is reflected in our diverse clientele base.

Our goal is to foster an environment where everyone feels welcome regardless of their gender, sexuality, race, disability, socioeconomic status, or any other factors that may cause them to face discrimination. We strive to be body-positive, LGBTQI-friendly and SW-friendly. The vast majority of products that we use are vegan, but please feel free to double check if you’re unsure.

Our friendly team includes a mixture of First Nations, POC, queer, and neurodivergent folks, who are always happy to work openly with you on your body adornment ideas. It’s important to us that we remain respectful and culturally sensitive with regards to the imagery and themes we use in any tattoo designs.

Unfortunately at this time our studio is not wheelchair accessible. We are working on this, but in the meantime please always feel free to reach out to us and see how else we can accommodate your needs. Our front door is 86cm wide with one 15cm step up from the sidewalk, and there are 18 steps to the upstairs section of the studio.
